The intake system for the Audi C8 RS6 is the result of extensive research and development work, tests and the development of numerous prototypes. Engineers set themselves two main goals: increased flow coefficient and unobstructed air flow. The first one was achieved by using all available space in the engine compartment, which is strongly limited by the underside of the hood. The filter housing has been designed from the ground up to obtain maximum volume, increase inlet openings and provide a more favorable positioning of the filter in relation to the turbines. Additionally, the turbine inlets have been significantly enlarged - by as much as 85% of the cross-sectional area. Achieving the second goal required the design of an organically shaped system with a specially developed rounded panel filter to eliminate any sharp bends and ensure air flow in parallel layers. The smooth transitions from the filter to the turbine inlets eliminate most of the turbulence, allowing the turbines to operate more efficiently. The special filter was created in cooperation with the BMC brand to ensure that the filtering surface is as large as possible while maintaining the cleanliness of the air reaching the engine.
By meeting all the requirements, the intake system for the C8 RS6 performs excellently on all fronts and allows the turbines to generate boost more effectively. As a result, throttle operation improves and performance increases significantly, as confirmed by independently conducted tests. The increases are the result of comprehensive development of the entire system from scratch: starting from the filter housing, ending with the cover and inlets.
